Studies for Water Rites, Acrylic on Trader Joe's paper bags

These paintings are made with acrylic paint on found paper bags from Trader Joe’s.
These began as studies for the Water Rites series. It is significant that these bags, typically seen as toss-aways in society, have now become something purposefully kept and re-used. Acrylic paint is used because its polymer base will maintain the paper, almost like a plastic lamination, preserving them. These paintings become captured moments of water experiences, both in image and material form.
